What is STEMS?

STEMS is a society incorporated by the Government of Meghalaya in 2022, to revolutionize the way people commute by leveraging modern transport solutions that are safe, sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective. The objective of the society is to develop and implement transport solutions that can enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and benefit the environment by reducing emissions.

  1. How do I register?
    You can register your child on STEMS Web/ Mobile application. The application can be downloaded from Google Play Store or IOS store.
  2. What documents are required for registration?
    You have to keep ready the following documents before starting the Self-Registration process:
    1. Aadhaar Card Details
    2. Passport size photo (Soft Copy)
    3. Mobile for OTP Verification
  3. Is there a registration fee?
    No, registration is free. However, if selected for the bus service then the bus service fees are applicable.
  4. What are the criteria to register?
    For the pilot phase, registrations are open for students from Class V and above from the following 15 schools:
    1. Loreto Convent School
    2. St. Edmunds School
    3. St Margaret's Higher Secondary School
    4. St Mary's School
    5. Shillong Public School
    6. St. Anthony's Hr Sec. School
    7. Pine Mount School
    8. Kamala Nehru Secondary School
    9. Brookside Adventist Hr.Sec. School
    10. Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Hr. Sec. School
    11. Divine Savior Higher Secondary School
    12. Mayfair Secondary School
    13. All Saint diocesan Hr. Sec. School
    14. Grace Academy School

  5. Can I change the applicant details after submitting the form?
    The basic applicant details including contact number and residential area can be updated on the app. However, the boarding point cannot be changed once the registration form is submitted.
  6. Do I have separately register for my children, either going to same school or different schools?
    Yes. Separate registration is required for each student.

  1. What is the procedure to make a seat booking?
    The following are the standard procedures to book a seat:
    1) Self-registration form
    2) Google Survey form
    3) Shortlisting of students by STEMS
    4) Verification of students from schools
    Once the shortlisted students are verified by the schools, the users will receive an SMS within 5-7 days to complete the booking process.
  2. Can I book more than one seat at the same time?
    No. Each seat must be booked separately as per the unique registration ID of the student.
  3. Are there concessions available for siblings?
    No, concessions are not available for siblings.
  4. Is the seat guaranteed?
    Once the booking is confirmed, the seat is guaranteed for the student.
  5. How to change or modify my boarding point?
    Unfortunately, STEMS does not permit a change in boarding point after registration / booking confirmation. To make any such changes, a new registration form needs to be filled and the booking needs to be re-initiated.

  1. What are the payment options available?
    All payments are accepted online through:
    1) UPI
    2) Debit / Credit Card
    3) Net Banking

  1. What is the procedure to cancel the booking?
    To cancel your booking, kindly contact our customer care.
  2. What is the refund policy?
    Once the booking is confirmed, the fees shall not be refunded.

  1. How will I receive the bus pass?
    Post completion of the booking process, an e-Bus Pass will be automatically generated on the STEMS mobile application. The e-Bus Pass will be available in downloadable PDF format which has to be printed and carried by the student during the daily commute.
  2. What happens if my child forgets / loses his/her bus pass?
    The e-Bus Pass can be accessed on the STEMS mobile application in downloadable PDF format and printed.

  1. How can I track the current location of the bus?
    The current location of the school bus can be tracked on the STEMS mobile application.
  2. How can I know when my child has boarded and de-boarded the bus?
    You will get real-time notification on your registered mobile numbers once your child has boards and de-boards the bus.

  1. What is the capacity in each bus?
    Each school bus has a capacity of 30 seats.
  2. What time will the bus arrive for pick-up and drop?
    The estimated pick-up and drop timetable can be accessed on the STEMS mobile application. Additionally, the buses can be tracked on real-time basis on the app.

  5. How long will the driver wait if the student is late?
    The bus driver will wait at the designated bus stop maximum for one minute, or until the students have boarded, whichever is earlier.
  6. Will my child be able to access another bus service if he/she has extra-curricular activities post school hours?
    Presently, the bus services cannot be rescheduled.

    The designated bus routes and boarding points can be viewed on the STEMS mobile application.
  2. Where can I access the bus timetables?
    The bus timetable can be viewed on the STEMS mobile application.
  3. How to request a change of bus stop or route?
    Unfortunately, once a booking is confirmed the boarding point cannot be changed. Such a change can only be made through a new booking, which will involve re-payment of the fees.
  4. How to find out the bus number and driver name of my child’s school bus?
    The details of the bus number, driver, and caretaker of the assigned bus can be viewed on the STEMS mobile application.
  5. What safety measures are in place?
    The buses are fully equipped with:
    1) Five CCTV with interior, boarding, front, drivers, and rear view
    2) First -aid
    3) Real-time enabled tracking buses
    4) Fully trained drivers and caretakers
  6. Does the driver have a valid driver’s license?
    Yes, STEMS ensures that all drivers have a valid driving license. You can view the character certificate of the drivers, not more than 6 months old, on the STEMS mobile application.
  7. Does the caretaker have formal training?
    Yes, STEMS ensures that all caretakers undergo formal training.
  8. Are the drivers and caretakers trained in first aid?
    Yes, STEMS ensures that all drivers and caretakers are trained in first aid.
  9. How can I contact the school bus driver or caretaker?

  10. How will you ensure the bus is not overcrowded?
    STEMS will strictly restrict to only 30 bookings per bus, as per the total bus quantity.

  2. What happens in case of a bus breakdown / accident?
    In case of a bus breakdown / accident, the incident management team which includes driver and caretaker will ensure full safety of students on a priority. The parents / guardians will be notified by STEMS Team through mobile about the breakdown / accident and the expected delay.
  3. How to access the school bus service handbook or policy?
    The school bus service guidelines and handbook can be accessed on the app.
